Beginning Sound Freebie

In kindergarten a lot of time is spent working on letter identification and beginning sounds.  You can use this beginning sound freebie in your classroom many ways.  It would make easy independent practice pages or would be great to use in small groups for more guided instruction.

The freebie includes seven independent pages.  The directions are the same for each page.  I hope you find this freebie helpful in your classroom!

Author Study Packet

Author studies are a great way to work on comprehension skills in the classroom.  Plus you are able to introduce the students to beloved book characters.

Today I am posting my first author study packet for Laura Numeroff.  Over the next few months I will be creating several author study packets with a similar structure.  This way the students can become familiar with the packet and begin to become more independent.  As the year progresses the comprehension skills will change but the format will continue to be the same for each author study.

In this first packet you will find a page for meet the author, book recording page, book characters and one page for each book included in the study.  Also included is a compare and contrast page, class voting result page, and a page to record the student's favorite book from the study.

I hope you enjoy this author study packet!

The Three Pigs Literacy Packet

There is nothing like a classic fairy tale!  At the beginning of the year they are a wonderful way to introduce literacy skills such as story sequencing, characters, and setting.  The students are usually familiar with the stories.  This helps with introducing some higher level literacy skills early in the year.

Today I am posting my newest literacy packet that uses the fairy tale The Three Pigs.  There are SO many different version of this fairy tale.  For this packet you can use any version of the story that has the same characters (three pigs and wolf).

Included are the whole group and independent activities for story sequencing, character and setting.  For each independent page I included modifications on the instruction pages for the beginning of the year if needed.  I also included two art projects to match the book characters and a take home coloring page.  Be sure to check it out!

Summer Writing Packet

Today I am posting my final writing packet.  This year I have created fall, winter and spring writing packets.  My final writing packet is….. you guessed it……. a summer writing packet.  I created it to use in the classroom at the end of the year.  Included are writing prompts about camping, fishing, picnics, the beach, a water park and even all about the kindergarten year.

In this packet you will find three formats to use in your classroom.  First I created sentence starter posters.  The students write the sentence starter and then fill the words in from the pictures.  At the end of the year I would suggest having the students then continue to write on the same topic.

The second set includes sentence starters with pictures.  For this set you can post the sentence starters and topic pictures with words in pocket charts to display in your writing station.  With this option your students can remove the topic cards in order to copy.
Third, I included sentence starters with topic pictures only.  For this set I have printed the sentence starters on the writing paper.  The topic pictures do not include words.  The students can use the pictures to help them think of ideas for their writing.
Last, I included three end of the year sentence starters.  These pages include sentence starters for the students to write about their kindergarten year.
If you would like to check out my newest writing packet simply click on the picture below to visit my TPT store!

Target Dollar Bin to Literacy Freebie

Anyone that knows me is well aware that I have a Target problem.  I LOVE Target!  A relaxing day for me is strolling the aisles at my local Target with a warm Starbucks in my hand.  This week while I was looking through the dollar bin (my favorite place for unexpected finds) I found these adorable magnifying glasses!  There were all kinds of cute spring shapes.  I couldn’t resist buying this cute bee one.
My mind began racing with all kinds of ways to use it in a kindergarten classroom.  I knew just what I wanted to do!  At this point in the year it becomes hard to continue to come up with new and fun ways for the kids to practice their sight words.  I also know that the kids love the I Spy and Where’s Waldo books.  So I decided to combine these two ideas for my “Hiding Sight Words” freebie!
In this packet I created four pictures that have ten sight words hiding in each picture.  The students will use a small magnifying glass to look for the words hidden in the pictures.

I also created a recording sheet for each picture.  When the students find a word they will color the word on their matching recording sheet.  Then they will write the word using a pencil.
If you would like to download this packet simply click on the cover page below!
I hope you enjoy this freebie!  Be sure to look at your local Target for those cute magnifying glasses.  There are SO many ways to use them in the classroom!!

Sight Word Bunny Hop

It is time for a spring freebie!  Even with all the snow we have here in Nebraska all I keep thinking is spring is near!  So to keep me feeling warm I created this sight word bunny hop freebie!

This is a fun and active game that would be great for a station, small group or even as a fun classroom activity to do together in pairs.  You can use it is so many ways.  It will get the kids up and moving while working on sight words at the same time!  The packet includes forty sight words!  Have fun with the sight word bunny hop!!

Spring Writing Packet

Spring is just around the corner!  It is still freezing here in Nebraska but I can see little signs that spring is on its way.  I am hearing more birds chirping in the morning and 45 degrees feels like short sleeve weather.  J

To celebrate I am posting my newest TPT writing packet!  This spring writing packet is similar to my fall writing packet and winter writing packet.  It is easy to print and use for independent writing.  Be sure to check it out!

Mitten Missing Numbers 0-125

Today I am posting a missing number freebie!  Since the winter weather is still upon us I used mittens for the clipart.  The students will first put all of the mittens into order on the floor or table.  Then they will use them to help fill in the missing numbers on their independent missing number page.  This would be great to use for independent practice or small group instruction.  I have included mitten missing number sets for the numbers 0-17, 18-35, 36-53, 54-71, 72-89, 90-107, and 108-125.

Valentine’s Day Writing

It is February!  Wahoo!  That means spring is getting closer and closer.  Here in Nebraska it is so cold.  All I can see is tons of snow!  I am ready for spring.  This winter I have been battling with my health issues so I have not been as consistent with my blog content.  I am ready to start creating again!  J

Today I am posting a freebie!  I created five Valentine sentence starters.  These would be easy to use during writing.  They would also be super simple to put into a station for indpendent writing.

Sunday be sure to stop by my TPT store for a great sale!
Happy February!!
